New Zealand Seasons
What You Can Expect

While traveling on your New Zealand Holidays expect to experience all the New Zealand Seasons.

Interested in learning what the temperature is right now in Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown or Wellington? Learn more about the weather.

Summer
New Zealand summer months are December to February, bringing high temperatures and sunshine with long, sunny days and mild nights. This is an excellent time for outdoor activities and enjoying gorgeous New Zealand Beaches. Summer is ideal for surfing, sailing, sea kayaking, as well as swimming and sunbathing. And that's not all! There are many other outdoor water sports activities you can experience or choose.

Autumn-Colours

Autumn
March to May are New Zealand’s autumn months. While temperatures are a little cooler than summer, the weather can be excellent. It is even possible to swim in some areas until April. While New Zealand’s native flora is evergreen, there are many deciduous trees. Colorful changing leaves create a scenic delight in autumn. Well known for autumn scenic splendor are the regions of Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay.

Winter
New Zealand’s winter months June through August bring colder weather to most of the country. Expect to see rain in most of the North Island. Snow-covered mountain ranges in both islands become visual feasts with beautiful vistas and excellent skiing. While the South Island has cooler winter temperatures, they receive little rainfall. This is an excellent time to visit the glaciers, mountains, and other scenic areas.

Kayaking-the-coast

Spring
This season is from September to November. New Zealand's spring weather can change quickly from cold and frosty to warm and hot. Throughout the country plant life blossoms and new animal life is visible. What a pleasant sight... new born lambs frolicking in the fields. Every year Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay regions celebrate spring with a blossom festival. Seeking white water rafting adventure, melting spring snow makes river water levels excitingly high and lots of fun!

New Zealand Seasons... Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall. I don't care, I like them all!
